Presidential Research Assistant Professor (RAP) Scheme 2022-23 under Faculty of Law
The University of Hong Kong (HKU) has launched a new University’s Presidential Research Assistant Professor (RAP) Scheme with an objective of recruiting outstanding RAPs from Hong Kong and around the world and provide a promotion opportunity for the Post-doctoral Fellows appointed by the University under the prominent Research Grants Council (RGC) Postdoctoral Fellowship Scheme and who have satisfactorily completed or are about to complete their 36-month fellowship.
Applicants must have demonstrated outstanding intellectual quality and have original and innovative ideas to tackle complex and emerging problems, the courage to open new research frontiers, and the ambition to be a global leader in academia, research or related pursuits. Applicants should preferably be within five years of their PhD graduation of leading global universities with highest distinction and awards at the time of application. Fresh and recent PhD graduates / graduands are advised to consider the RGC Postdoctoral Fellowship Scheme (RGC PDFS) which is targeted at candidates who have obtained a PhD degree or an equivalent qualification not more than three years before the year of nomination, or will complete the requirement of a PhD degree or an equivalent qualification by August 31 of the following year of nomination.
Applications for this Scheme are invited year-round but should be submitted at least six months before the proposed appointment start date.
Remuneration, Terms & Benefits
- Up to three-year appointment term;
- An annual salary of HK$549,600 (~US$70,400) with 15% contract gratuity;
- An annual research grant of HK$50,000 (~US$6,400);
- An annual conference support of HK$16,500 (~US$2,100); and
- Annual leave, medical benefits and access to a range of campus facilitates, including the world class Lui Che Woo Law Library.
Each successful fellow will join a research team of his/her choice, subject to approval. It is possible to change supervisors/advisors (once) to gain different experiences within the first six months of appointment.

- A two-page curriculum vitae with full publication list and the proposed salary;
- A one A4 page of an abstract of your research; and
- A maximum of two A4 pages of research details including background of research, research plan and methodology.
